What real backup and recovery needs

A backup is only useful if it is complete, protected and recoverable. These four layers deliver all three.

Step 1

Protected copies

Automated, encrypted backups kept offsite and isolated so they survive the same event as your live data.

Step 2

Verification

Monitoring that confirms backups actually complete, because silent failures are the ones that hurt.

Step 3

Tested recovery

Regular restore testing so you know your backups work before you ever have to rely on them.

Step 4

Continuity plan

A documented, rehearsed plan with clear recovery targets, so recovery is calm and quick.

Data loss does not wait for a convenient moment. Ransomware, hardware failure, accidental deletion and cloud outages can all take your business offline in seconds, and a backup you have never tested is not protection, it is a hope. Managed backup and disaster recovery turns that hope into certainty. As a UK continuity partner, Anviam makes sure your data is protected, verified and genuinely recoverable.

We design backup and recovery around two questions that matter: how quickly you need to be back up (your recovery time objective) and how much data you can afford to lose (your recovery point objective). Then we automate your backups, monitor that they actually complete, and test recovery regularly, so you know it works before you ever need it.

From cloud and offsite backup and ransomware-resilient design to full business continuity planning, we give you a documented, rehearsed way to keep operating when something goes wrong, protecting your data, your revenue and your reputation.

Automated cloud and offsite backup

We back up your critical systems and data automatically on a schedule that matches how often it changes, so you are never relying on someone remembering to run a backup. Copies are encrypted and kept offsite in the cloud, following the principle of multiple copies in more than one location, so a fire, theft or local failure cannot take out both your data and its backup.

We cover servers, endpoints and the cloud applications businesses often wrongly assume are backed up for them, including Microsoft 365 and other SaaS platforms. The result is a complete, automated safety net across your whole environment.

  • Automated scheduled backups
  • Encrypted cloud and offsite copies
  • Server and endpoint backup
  • Microsoft 365 and SaaS backup
  • Multiple copies, multiple locations
  • Retention policy management

Ransomware-resilient backups

Modern ransomware deliberately seeks out and encrypts backups, because attackers know that destroying your recovery options is how they force a payment. We design backups to resist exactly this, with immutable and isolated copies that cannot be altered or deleted by an attacker even if they compromise your network.

That resilience is what lets you say no to a ransom demand. Instead of paying and hoping, you restore from a clean, protected backup and get back to work, which is both safer and far cheaper.

  • Immutable backup copies
  • Air-gapped and isolated storage
  • Protection against backup deletion
  • Clean-restore verification
  • Rapid recovery after an attack
  • Integration with security monitoring

Recovery time and recovery point objectives

Not all systems are equally critical, and backing everything up the same way wastes money and still leaves gaps. We work with you to set recovery time objectives (how fast each system must be back) and recovery point objectives (how much data you can afford to lose), then design backup frequency and recovery methods to meet them.

This turns business continuity from a vague aspiration into concrete, measurable targets. You know exactly how quickly each part of the business can be restored, and your backup investment goes where it protects the most value.

  • Recovery time objective (RTO) definition
  • Recovery point objective (RPO) definition
  • System criticality assessment
  • Tiered backup strategy
  • Cost-aligned protection
  • Measurable continuity targets

Backup monitoring and verification

The most dangerous backup is the one everyone assumes is working but silently failed months ago. We monitor every backup job, confirm it completes successfully, and alert and act the moment one fails, so gaps are caught and closed immediately rather than discovered during a disaster.

Verification goes beyond a green tick. We check that backups are complete and consistent, so when you need to restore, the data is actually there and usable.

  • Daily backup monitoring
  • Success and failure alerting
  • Completion and consistency checks
  • Rapid remediation of failures
  • Backup health reporting
  • Retention and compliance checks

Tested recovery and failover

A backup is only proven when you successfully restore from it. We test recovery regularly, restoring systems and data to confirm they come back correctly and within your recovery time objective, so there are no nasty surprises during a real incident.

For systems that cannot tolerate downtime, we design failover so operations continue on a standby copy while the primary is recovered. You get confidence that has been demonstrated, not just promised.

  • Regular restore testing
  • Recovery drills and rehearsals
  • Failover for critical systems
  • Documented recovery runbooks
  • Recovery time validation
  • Post-test reporting

Business continuity planning

Technology recovery is only part of staying in business after a disaster. We help you build a business continuity plan that covers how people keep working, who does what, how you communicate, and how you recover systems in the right order, so a serious incident is met with a calm, rehearsed response.

A documented, tested plan is also increasingly expected by customers, insurers and regulators. We help you create one, keep it current, and rehearse it, so it works when it matters rather than sitting unread in a drawer.

  • Business continuity plan development
  • Roles, responsibilities and communication
  • Recovery sequencing and dependencies
  • Scenario planning and rehearsals
  • Plan documentation and updates
  • Compliance and insurer evidence

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between backup and disaster recovery?

Backup is making protected copies of your data. Disaster recovery is the planned, tested process of getting your systems and business running again after an incident, within agreed recovery time and recovery point objectives. You need both, and we deliver them together.

Do I need to back up Microsoft 365 if it is in the cloud?

Yes. Microsoft and other SaaS providers protect their infrastructure, but under their shared-responsibility model your data is your responsibility. Accidental deletion, ransomware and malicious insiders can all lose cloud data, so we back up Microsoft 365 and other SaaS platforms separately.

How do you protect backups from ransomware?

We use immutable and isolated backup copies that cannot be altered or deleted, even by an attacker who compromises your network. That means that if ransomware hits, you can restore from a clean backup rather than paying a ransom and hoping.

What are RTO and RPO?

Recovery time objective is how quickly a system must be back after an incident. Recovery point objective is how much data, measured in time, you can afford to lose. We agree these for each system and design backup frequency and recovery methods to meet them.

How often do you test recovery?

We test restores regularly, because a backup is only proven when you successfully recover from it. Testing confirms your data comes back correctly and within your recovery time objective, so there are no surprises during a real incident.

How quickly could we recover after a disaster?

It depends on the recovery targets we agree and your architecture. Critical systems can be designed for fast recovery or failover, while less urgent systems recover on a longer timeline. We design to your defined targets and validate them through testing.

Do you cover physical and cloud systems?

Yes. We back up and protect on-premise servers, endpoints, virtual machines and cloud workloads, as well as SaaS applications. We manage it as one coherent protection strategy across your whole environment.

Can you help us build a business continuity plan?

Yes. We help you document how people keep working, who does what, how you communicate and the order in which systems are recovered, then rehearse it. This is increasingly expected by customers, insurers and regulators, and we keep the plan current.
